About the event
This week, we have three Bluesmasters coming to Dfr Lounge on Friday night, July 21 to join Brian Philips. The main guest is Blues legend Mookie Brill, a WC Handy Winner (Blues Grammys) for Best Blues Bassist in 2007. Mookie has been a regular performer with the Muddy Waters legendary blues band, alongside famous musicians like Bob Margolin and Pinetop Perkins. He has played with renowned artists such as Anson Funderburgh, Big Joe Mayer, Fiona Boyles, and more. Hailing from Charlotte, Mookie is a triple threat specializing in jazz bass, electric bass, and harmonica.
Some of you may remember Mookie as a standout player in a gig we put on at Quotations here in Brevard some years ago, where he performed with Anson Funderburgh's crack band. Not only does he sing blues, but he also has soulful 50s R&B in his voice.
The second featured artist is Bobby Radcliff, an Asheville resident and a monster guitar player and singer. Last week, Bobby played at DFR with the fabulous Nighthawks and brought the house down with his incredible performance. Those who attended that sold-out show will definitely want to see Bobby again. He has played with the original Blues Brothers band, Roomful of Blues, Bonnie Rait, Ronnie Earl, Earl King, Magic Sam, and Buddy Guy.
Completing this trio of Bluesmasters is Devin Neel, hailing from Florida, and a master blues drummer. Devin has played with Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones, who have performed at DFR and our very own Brevard Blues Fest multiple times. His superb blues drumming and powerful 50s blues voice make him a formidable addition to this trio.
And lastly, our Friday Blues host for these Bluesmasters is NC Slim, also known as Brian Philips, on guitar. He will be your host and professor for the night.
Join us for an incredible evening of blues music with these talented artists at Dfr Lounge on Friday, July 21.
